About

Hello! I’m Chiara Sulprizio and I teach Classical languages and literature at Vanderbilt University. I have been a big animation fan since I was a teenager, and I am also interested in the reception of Greco-Roman culture in the modern age. I figured I would merge these two interests and that is pretty much how this project was born. I want to trace and explore the many manifestations of ancient Greece and Rome in the realm of cartoons and animation, since the inception of the medium in the late 1800s to the present day. I have started this collection as a repository for clips and commentary on my discoveries and I would love to come to your school or theater or festival and  present some of this material as a visual showcase in the next two years.

If you have a contribution, a question, a suggestion or an invitation, please get in touch with me via the Contact page.  You can also follow me on Twitter @chiarasulprizio or follow my Animated Antiquity Facebook page for updates.

Thanks!
